by Unbridled_Passion
As the sun rises
over the mountain,
A majestic bird
takes flight
Stretching powerful wings
after a long night's rest,
gracefully gliding
through the morning air
Bald head gleams
in the rays of sun
the sky is his domain,
for here he is master
Morning flight concluded,
the Eagle returns to its nest
and his call echoes
throughout the land
I find that I can't just pass this beautiful poem without making a strong comment on the plight of the Bald Eagle. The Bald Eagle, was made the National Emblem of the USA in 1782.
Bald Eagles are monogamous and mate for life. A Bald Eagle will only select another mate if its faithful companion should die.
Their population was at 300,000 to 500,000 birds in the early 1700s. But fell to levels in the USA to <10,000 nesting pairs by the 1950s, then to endangered levels of less than 500 pairs by the 1960s. This population decline was caused by humans. The mass shooting of eagles, use of pesticides on crops, destruction of habitat, and contamination of waterways and food sources by a wide range of poisons and pollutants all played a role in harming the Bald Eagle's livelihood and diminishing their numbers.
We should all be ashamed.
Well crafted verse about the daily life of Eagles. Written to portray their majestic beauty. Lovely Poem!
