The Fighter

Written for Theresa, who really needed it

It's two a.m., all is still; But the fighter's ears are pert
Her eyes are closed, her mind is calm, but her spirit is alert
There's trouble here, she feels it near, there's gonna be a fight
The unseen foes, she always knows, will come to her at night

Suddenly she's wide awake... There's tension in the air
An ice cold chill and blackness blackness brings fear and despair
One by one, so silently, they creep into the room
Frustration, Anger, Lonliness... Are here to claim her doom

In unison an evil hiss says "Hello, my dear,
"You know us well by now, I'm sure, but don't have any fear.
"We promise you we won't be long. We shall soon depart,
"But not before we rape and kill and take away your heart."

She shuts her eyes and holds it back; She tries her very best
But she's tired from years of fighting and her spirit needs a rest,
"Oh my Lord, you know the sword you gave me is not so light,
"And I love you Lord, but if I can't wield it, how'm I gonna fight?"

"Oh my Lord, I can't go on, I've become so very weak..."
And as she prays, as she has for days, a tear rolls down her cheek.
With majestic pow'r the Lord appears and lights up all the place
The darkness flee when they see the glory on His face.

"My child, have peace, I love you so... I've not thrown you 'way
"I've been with you through thick and thin, every single day.
"I died for you and raised you up, I've trained and taught you, too,
"So remember now, my promises... I said I'd fight for you."
