The First Snowfall of winter is late
It's mid-January, no matter the date.
You decide to go for a walk in the wood
It's mid-January, you go while you could.

The silence abounds
The reverence astounds
The utter stillness
The hush of the woods
And all of its creatures
You marvel as you walk
Into the white covered
Features.

No wind finds you
Yet you hear it sigh
Through the branches
Of a near-by Pine
And the steam of your breath
Surrounds you as you are silent,
Barely daring to breathe.

You stop and stand still
And look down at the ground
Listen! You can actuallyhear
The snow as it falls
On the dried leaves near you.

You breathe in quickly,
And feel the cold air
Fill your lungs, stealing
The air within them it's
So cold.

Slowly you begin to feel
The numbing chill race
Through you and you look up
Into the trees around you
And see the sun is beginning
To set.

You'd best be getting back.
You raise your face to the sky
And feel the snow falling down
Upon your face.
Cold
Bone-chilling
Melting where it lands
Leaving traces, like tears,
Down your cheeks.

The first snowfall of winter is late
It's mid-January.

To M2M!

*Curtsies* Thank you M2!

As you know... this was spurred on by a conversaton that I had with a friend of mine; during which they told me that they were experiencing the first snow of the season and that they'd gone for a walk in the woods that day.

A major portion of the rest, was filled in based on my own memories of snowfalls either as a child... or as an adult, when I lived in Mass.

I am so glad you enjoyed it!

Fantastic

This a wonderful poem by a wonderful lady. As usual Victoria captures the essence of her subject matter.
