I sit here in my chair, my hair cast down over my eyes. I feel it touching my face. The tips tickling my chin, I feel life in this body, but yet I feel dead inside. I feel pain, and hurt. I feel everything and nothing at the same time. Impossible as it may seem, it is what I feel. Every waking moment I feel as though someone is watching me. Someone I cannot see, but they are behind me. I can feel the air change around me. I can sense a thickness in the air as they draw nearer. They do not touch me, they only move around me, but never in front of me, always behind me. They follow me, as if I must lead them. Lead them to a place I am not sure of yet. Perhaps it is nothing, just in my mind. Maybe it is something, something real, and yet, unseen by my eyes. People say they can hear the hum of a TV as it is turned on in another room. I hear that too, but I hear so much more. Perhaps what I hear is death talking to me. Waiting for me, and will not leave my side till I am gone. And perhaps it is death that is following me, after all death follows us all. It’s only a matter of time before it catches up, to tap our shoulder and bring us home.
