Click hereI keep putting her back in the “friend” box
But the box keeps on breaking away.
I see her, my heart and my breath stops,
And I feel my soul longing to say:
“Can love reach across generations?”
Or are we all prisoners of time?
“Would it hurt if I told her I love her?”
If she loved me would it be a crime?
I know that our love would have limits,
I’m willing to take all the risks.
I’m dying to touch and embrace her
And living in hope of one kiss.
I love her too much to offend her,
Her friendship’s too precious to me.
And so I hold back and say nothing
Lest friendship and love I betray.
If I had the power for one moment
I’d cast off the restraints of time
And fly to her now as a young man
And ask her to lie by my side.
A fantasy’s better than nothing
And we can make love in my heart.
Till death kills the pain and the anguish
Of a romance that never can start.
And so like a rare, precious treasure
She goes back in the “friend” box again
Till the next time her face stirs my passion
And I can’t hold her in as a friend.
