Umbilical cords
are two-way streets;

they can snake out,
suck you in like a straw,

leaving only
the emptied husk

of your wrinkled skin.
A failed parachute.

I have always wondered

if you write (or study) Eastern poetic forms because your poems are so spare and precise. This one does so much with so few words. I love poems that make every word count. And then of course, every word in this poem is true.

Great read with wonderful use of metaphor and simile. Thank you.
