i remember the nite
when we kissed neath the light
that shone dim
on the stoop at your door:
you initiated,
i received, my breath bated
so elated in the moment
i'd imagined oft before;
passion reigned in
at the touch of your skin
for i couldn't let myself begin
to enter the forbidden,
to reveal the depths of longing
that i thought were safely hidden;
your vow slightly loosened
by liquor and laughter
yet not fully open
to what i was after,
and i too unsure and
afraid of offending
to start an adventure
too soon to be ending.

i've held onto the memory,
sweet treasure locked inside of me,
and prayed to have another chance
to share such sweet delight,
to offer compensation,
interest added thru duration,
all these years i've sorely waited
for the kiss i missed that nite.
