If I hadn't friends but geese,
I'd not cease speaking,
nor would I be ignored,
since I'd find it only right
to learn the language of my friends,
and they'd learn mine—for their own end.

If I hadn't a single friend but a goose,
I'd choose to tied a noose, and let it hang;
since there's nothing friendly in a goose,
who's made to choose between
a single friend, and their brood.
