Seduced the night’s fragile soul
Darkness followed the pungent scent
Of the full moon
Into an indigo hollow,
Vivid with the starry wings
Of the willow fairy.
The morning’s mate beheld a king
Shrewd, antique
Scolding the winged.
The enchantress opened a pocket
Defending her petals of wildnerness
Cream, pink, aged with ripeness
Spreading them upon the dun earth
Upon her finger new blood flowed
Smearing upon the king’s parched kisses.
She plucked her wings from a golden back,
From bruised skin and mind
Leading clarity to his shriveled feet
Like her child upon his bosom.
The token glittered
Through concern,
Through doubting.
The king cackled as the fairy whispered.
But only night had known of what
The creature could not speak.
Her treasures were gifts to be given
To an elfish prince of tales
And dandelion daydreams.
One day he might understand.
