The lights go out one by one
The animals are left to roam the streets alone.
Their claws beat time on pavements cold and empty,
Like lost souls they prowl.

Huddled bodies deep in sleep,
Mumble fears to silent rooms.
Walls closed about securely,
Snared in safe cages.

Trapped by rules,
Governed by fools
They wait like docile sheep.

Cynics are breed from bitterness and discontent,
Wise eyes are windows for young minds
Before time around them winds,
Killing hope.

War is here,
Famine walks amongst us.
The world is ending we cry.
But many who can still see clearly enough to dream,
Realise it will be mass suicide.
