It's a smile that never quite leaves the face,
That covers up the hurt,
The longing that forces a heart to hide,
And drives the pain that resides there.

An exterior shell,
A shallow reflection,
An attempt to persuade,
Never knowing the teeming loneliness beneath.

For one heart that’s destined to be shared,
But alone it stands,
Waiting, constantly aware,
Of the possibilities of love.

When will there be a release,
When the inside can finally be free,
Where the heart matches the smile,
And the lips can finally sing.
