The Matter of Lazarus Raised

He was the Son of God, of course, so said some.
Why then nullify the tomb once disease was dead?
Perhaps his sisters shrouded just a fevered sleep.

Others vowed a son of man chronicled
A myth so not to starve in Palestine.

“Illusion” Freud would later say
That through the ages multiplied
Like the storied loaves and fish.

But he mourned leprotic Lazarus
Who brought some pup up to the shop
When they both were boys.

So Freudians, et al, and those who quote the Pope:

Love induced a tear. That’s all.
No fraud nor sermon need be shouted here.
