Once, a Wiseman,
or—at the very least—a man I considered wise,
told me of the nature of men:

“There are only two types of man, in this world;
the type that shaves with the grain,
and those that shave against it.”

I spent many hours over many years,
digesting the complexity
of that statement.

In my youth, I had always assumed,
it likened some to the old-world brute,
and others to that softer side of man.

After a decade of contemplation,
I finally came to the realization
that the metaphor was not so complex, after all.

My father simply meant,
the only real difference
between one man and another
is the way they shave their face.

loved it

to the point, no extra nonsense... this said what it needed to say and no more. I envy you your ability to pare things down to simplicity.
