The Phantom came into your room as I lay there asleep.
He stood above my body and his presence I feared.
He was there to tell me of the days to come,
Of the absence of your love.
He told me of the pain I would feel, the loss and despair.
He whispered of the torment my heart and mind would bear,
At the moment I would leave you,
Of the loneliness surrounding me as your love I leave behind.
The Phantom spoke of tears and pain as if it were a flavor,
The taste of bitter emptiness that I would soon recognize.
My heart pounded fiercely as he came closer to your bed,
His bony finger pointed and his voice sent chills across me.
His voice scraped upon my nerves with chilling delight,
He wanted me to feel the defeat of a love gone cold.
I prayed you would hear him from your bed in the other room,
Please come and send him away, I begged within my mind.
The Phantom laughed so shrilly as he looked upon my face.
“He is not going to save you; he will not send me away.
I have come to foretell the life you will lead, when you walk away from him.
Heed my words for I possess you now, your life and heart is mine.
You will never know his touch again, nor feel his warm kiss.
You will be alone forever without his love.
Your heart will wither and die as an apple rots and stinks.
Though your body will go on in life, your heart and mind belong to me.
I will never leave you, never let you go,
You have come into my possession until the end of your time.
I am the death of his love for you; you loved the man too much.
You gave him all your heart, which he did not desire.
I waited silently in the wings for you to lose him,
His heart you never really owned, I laughed at you each time you wept.
My power increased every time you longed for his embrace.
You gave me the seeds to plant in his mind, of wishing you away.
Now you will pay the price until the end of time.
I own you now, your heart is mine and I will see it wasted,
Torn apart and thrown away as if it never existed.
Your emptiness will be complete when you leave this room today,
You will be alone again, just as you slept alone in his bed.”
The Phantom watched as I slowly rose from the barrenness of your bed,
He smiled his chilling smile as I dressed and walk out of your room,
He was by my side as I greeted you.
He sat with me as we passed the mornings small talk.
He put his skeletal arm around me as I walked out of your door,
He sat in the seat beside me as I drove away from you today,
The Phantom is with me now, guiding me on my way without you.
The death of our love is complete.
