THE RELUCTANT WARRIOR

Hear a mighty trumpet call,
Suddenly too near
Hails the guiltless warrior tall,
From innocence to fear
Raised from peaceful slumber,
The champion rides before
To fight the uninvited foe,
Now upon the shore.

No weapons has he and favour no need
Unwilling, untested with courage he leads
Commands about him strength abundant
A warrior become no longer reluctant.

Amass ageless forces, youth inspired and strong
Harness their will and faith bring along!
Belief born of vision, find justice by trial
Champions of cause banish foes by denial.

At the dawn, bitter cold and steel gray
The warrior, inspired, is heard to say:
" We stand not alone, we shall not falter
The mission is just, our course will not alter.

"For this birthright, our heritage shield
With optimism and dignity at our side,
You and I shall this day ride
With honour from this battlefield.

"For those who simply say I am
Shall so forever be,
Find no refuge in 'perhaps I can'
The triumph is in what you see."

With each day's dawn the plan unfolds
Line upon line, enemy numbers untold
The conflict engaged, the fallen revealed
The foe now slain, none survive to yield.

The daylight yet lingers, destiny is won
See the morrow, the warrior's work now done,
The horizon calls and generations will tell,
How the enemy was vanquished for eternity to hell.
And victory reigned, peace and calm rejoice
Observe the qualities that drive a man's choice,
To leave footprints behind that line the shore,
Evidence the warrior, at war no more.
