The Ride Home

It was a long ride home.
I had failed.
He waited for me to speak,
To explain.
But I stared silently
Into the distance.
Dreams were bankrupt
On the highway ahead.

He's gone now.
Thirty years.
I've learned to say
What I couldn't then.
I can show my tears
I can look into his eyes
I can see his knowing smile.
It was a long ride home.

powerful emotions

This poem is so powerful I can feel the bleakness and heaviness of the emotion. Good work!
