They meet twice a week
At a lounge by the river
Not a dive, but not the Ritz Carlton by far
Two lovers sit in the dark smoky room
To drink and talk
Carefully coordinating caresses
Under the table
Heads coming dangerously close
yet not close enough to kiss

Must be careful
Must be discreet
Never knowing who else could be in the room
Can’t let them know
They mustn’t find out
Those left at home awaiting their return

Through laughter and singing
The night is slipping away too soon
So in a quite rush they exit into the night
Is that night tonight?
Is that night finally here?
Not sure….don’t know
Only know flames of desire are burning
And time is short
Oh so short

So in too small of space
Groping in the dark
Like careless teenagers
The flames consume like wildfire
Hidden by fogged up windows
Through muffled moans
Their hands speak what
Mouths can’t say
Lovers dance in syncopated time

Time to go
Time to part
Whispering promises between kisses
Of what’s to come
Don’t know when
See you in two days
At the Rivers Edge
One more time…..My Lover
