tagNon-Erotic PoetryThe Road that Winds

The Road that Winds

Leaves shiver in the bitter wind,
branches groan as they sway.
The wind pays no heed,
swirling and whirling away.

My grey sweater,
matches the grey sky
matches the oppression I feel in my soul.
This room, this town, this life
smothering me in grey.

The slick pavement
flaunts it’s gleaming dress of rain.
It winds out of sight
calling me to follow.
But ties thicker than any tangible cord,
bind me tight
tight enough that my breath comes
in gasps and my vision
fades to
shades of grey.

I long for the day
I can shed this place.
The road that winds
away and away
still calls it’s siren’s song
and one day-
one day not too far away
I shall answer.
