The Room

The ghostly echoes of voices filled my head
As I gazed into the room and stared
The silence, the memories, the now empty bed
The laughter, the talk and the love we shared
Now but a memory

The friends we met, their pictures on the wall
‘If only walls could talk’ they say
In this room they would say it all
As I fall to my knees, break down and cry
With a pain so deep

I weep upon the pillow that once was yours
Smell your scent that lingers there
Distracted by a gift you inadvertently left
I pick up a thread of your hair
And kiss it

Of all the gifts you ever gave
This one I will treasure above
All others bar one I save
The gift of Your Love
Is mine to keep

And as I turn with tears in my eyes
Looking back once more
At all the things we once held
I turn the key and lock the door
Maybe one day?
I pray.
