I believe in Sean The Heroic,
because his heart is good if his arm often falters.
I believe in the truth of Apollo;
he lives in the sun's most hallowed hollow.
I believe in Humanity,
though I've been in the giftshop at Auschwitz.
I believe in civilization,
though Anglo barbarians murdered poor Oscar.
I believe in Women For Temperance,
though some sleep with Men For Tyranny.
I believe in the roots of the rainbow,
for it never rains in The Desert of Gold.
I believe in my power animal Drifting Hawk,
because there's no "beat" in marching eagles.
I believe in the parable of the long and short spoons,
though I've seen lobster tails hang out of devils' mouths.
I believe in the song of Orpheus,
though I saw him float by on the river.
I believe in law and order,
though I've never watched it work.
I believe in the cross at Calvary,
though I played to Judas to my friend Callahan.
I believe in monumental white lies,
for without its legends a tribe soon dies.
