The Sacred Hag

the Sacred Hag with bloodshot eyes
stood next to the garbage can
devouring a bag of cheese curls
muttering ancient curses
more out of habit than spite

(life had fed her more
than she had the stomach for
like the barbequed wings of angels
and the pickled horns of demons)

time passed through her like gas

her wisdom was in the forgetting
