Things happen for a reason
At least that is what I’ve been told
So where is your purpose?
You should be a year old

People ask how I am
I just lie that I’m okay
Nothing they can do
Pieces of my heart are gone astray

I never saw your smile
Or heard your cry
No cooing of your voice
No sparkle in your eye

A mothers arms, are not meant to be empty
A crib left untouched
My heart is left in shatters
Still dreaming of your touch

I’ll never see you play
I’ll never hear you talk
In my dreams
You hold my hand as you learn to walk

My heart is shattered
It will never mend
I still haven't seen this light
that's supposedly around the bend

You will never be sad
You will never be cold
In my heart you will live
Blow out your candle, you are one year old
