there you are, bathing in the beauty of love
never knowing it could be so wonderful
gliding across snow and ice covered lakes
waving away the signs that read “be careful...”

plummeting down the deep rabbit hole you go
painful curiosity got the best of you
and you find yourself rich with selflessness
like a subservient puppy licking at love’s shoe

there in that vast void of lover’s delight
exploration turned to obsession from the very start
there were empty ones after uninhabited others
whose love has eaten and drank from your heart

unknowingly, your dream has suddenly ended
their full bellies has knocked you tumbling over
unavoidable heartbreak has left you unbelievably lonely
painfully realizing all this time what love had in store

you’ve plucked off the petals that blinded your eyes
and you look towards the signs to tell you where to go
turning away in loneliness’ shivering cold
this time, the signs wave back, “i told you so...”
