The lone soldier stands in the misty night.
the twilight, lighting up his face,
as he looks out upon the field of death.
The timeless battle of petty men,
was fought again this day.
Innocent soldiers,
killed in the heat of battle,
fighting for an unknown cause.
When daylight comes again,
more innocents will die,
more lives will be cut short,
more brave men wasted.
The soldier walks through the field,
looking at all the fallen men,
His comrades,
his friends.
He stops,
the man at his feet is no more than 14.
His life gone before it even began.
This boy will never again see the light of day.
The soldier thinks,
maybe its better this way,
this young boy,
gone before he was a man,
will never know another day of horror.
Once the battle is over,
all will appear peaceful and quiet.
But for the soldier,
the travesty of war,
will always be on his mind,
and the screams of the dying will never fade.
