I found a strand of your hair on my blue shirt
As I unpacked my clothes the other day.
It was a simple reminder of you
When no reminder was ever needed.
I wonder, did it tickle your face once?
Did it brush your lips as you turned your head?
Did it stick to your cheek when you last cried?
I brushed it aside to kiss you once,
Or maybe I felt it tickle my chest
As you lay in my arms sleeping one night.
It is my most cherished possession,
Greater than gold, and far better than fame.
Perhaps when I see you again some day
I will tell you how much I value it,
And get home to find treasure on my shirt.
