The Summer of Autumn

Within the darkness I hear your breath
calm and rhythmic as the hand on your breast.
Content in knowledge of your dreams,
certain in the feelings of mine.

Do you hear my whispers my love?
The tender words of a man fulfilled….
Looking more forward in time
at the approaching horizon
than the memories of what has been.

The past receeds
and the autumn of our
lives progress…..
Mature, beautiful and golden in
the promise of what is to come
brightened and coloured
by my love for you….
Smiling,
I bask in it
relishing
the summer of Autumn.
