They were the surplus women their men lost in action .. only one in ten could hope to marry .. nearly all the men who might have married them gone to cannon fodder.. not for them husbands, no children, no natural bond .. ravenous sexual appetites taboo in polite society .. succumb to lose virginity .. slut, harlot denied marriage ...unknown to them deep intimacy .. unlived lives .. unborn children.

Touched to the core.

I went back and found this poem. I admire it. Its reads like lines from a chorus of a greek Tragedy. They too had their endless wars and endless widows and no families and no children to be born.

there's something unsettling

about this, a truth, an honesty, a POV I have never read in prose before. I liked it, only one spot, I question the wording, or maybe the punctuation.

"not for them husbands"...

however, still an excellent piece. love the voice, good work
