Waiting for you
Is like standing by the sea

Not because
At the sea
I wait for the waves
As they trundle towards me
And roll away
Leaving me stranded

Like you sometimes do

No

To wait for you is to stand by the Sea
Because
You rise like the tide
Inevitably

And I am King Canute

Touching you
Willing you
Ill-containing you
You slowly arch your body
And splay at your pleasure
Like the sea does as it approaches

A rising crescendo

And you gasp and grasp for anything
Like the sea’s certain flood

I will taste you like I taste the sea
