Life of my love
And love of my life;
That first meeting, that first look
When barely sixteen springs you had seen,
All I thought of,
Was that which is in between your thighs,
That cleft fruit of humankind's being
Cleaved into female and male.
Meetings more with passing time,
Supple grew your limbs, and, graceful, gait,
Beauty aglow with blossoming youth,
Tender, enticing apples did ripen,
Bewitching all with the serpent's charm,
Flowing hair and complexion fair,
Haunches sleek and nimble foot,
Even your shadow, Leila, then did seduce;
Then; you, I did want for mine.
Then;
But then that other look,
Into your eyes and what lay behind,
Into your words -- and beyond,
When I learnt the You in you,
The You in you, the essence
Which gives musk fragrance
Then I wanted to be yours . . .
Takes one back to the sunshine years of one's life -- when there's just a single shining star on one's emotional horizon, and the heart is carefree, except for the diffidence of one's first love. Beautifully expressed!
This is a lovely depiction of the sweet innocence of young love. And yet, even in youth, he is aware there is more than sunshine. This boy is a sensitive man.
a lovely poem, but I'm sitting here wondering how you got away with the reference to "...barely sixteen springs..." inferring an age less than 18? glad it was posted, I enjoyed it
