The Voice of Reason
Two voices argue with bitter aggression
Slugging it out, demanding attention
Extreme points of view, middle ground lost
Determined to triumph at any cost
"Get going, be reckless!" the one side demands
"Give up, you're worthless," the other commands
A mind torn apart, damaged, destroyed
Irrational maelstrom, a darkening void
Devouring logic, rationality fled
Emotions dictating the thoughts in my head
I cried out for mercy as hope waved adieu
I feared to go on, no ending, no cure
You reached through the vacuum, a beacon of light
Dispelling the darkness, dissolving the night
Your rational words laced with kindness and love
Hauled my mind from the depths to the logic above
And grasping at safety I vowed to defend
The reason you'd shown me, my saviour, my friend.
