the wall

across a field, by cobbled lane -
stands a wall, bathed in pain...
centuries stand in mute denial -
a silent witness to time’s trial...

time - the dream - upon which hinges -
the fate of man - and fate’s revenges...
the question here - is time so bold -
to steal away - what man was given to hold...

question you may the meaning of time -
but the meaning is clear, though often sublime...
like leaves that shimmer in cold winds that blows -
beside the wall, dies the heart that knows.
