The car speeds faster along the winding road.
The engine wailing as it’s pushed to the limit.
The trees fly by, the road signs too.
The surroundings becoming one big blur.

Inside the car the sobs of the driver, drowning out the sounds of the engine.
Tissues scrunched up and left on the passenger seat, remnants of the tears.
The car moves more rapidly, trying to get away.
The driver hoping her pain will escape.

She imagines her pain and suffering being left behind in the dust,
As she drives off into the sunset.
It won’t happen, it can’t occur.
The road is not long enough to make the pain go away.
