I wonder, my lover,
do my nails carving your back
awaken the wolf within
as your penetrating gaze
awakens mine

lifting its head from slumber
ears pointed up and forward
it stands;
pausing for the briefest of moments
to insure that it has correctly understood the message

then with confident gait
it saunters at first
knowing there is not yet a need for speed
but as the heartbeat drum quickens
inside twitching ears
so does its pace until reaching
a full speed galloping rhythm,
it runs.
racing the wind now, it runs -
until a mere flash between trees
is all that is seen
as up the rocky mountain
muscles quivering, contracting,
it sprints panting
and when reaching the most elevated peak
and while cold winds whip with a will
to tumble the beast back below
the wolf stands firm
releasing one piercing celebratory howl
before leisurely and softly trotting
back toward its familiar place of rest
to calmly lie
until next time

oh yes my lover;
you awaken the wolf in me.
