the woods are full of secret lovers
for they are hiding undercover and
concealed in the foliage of dreams.

it is true they are quite unseen
but there they are anyway america
running furtively through your trees.

fruit surrendered to invisible hands
happy to pick the wild berries and
smear the sweet juices on our face.

we slip in and out no one the wiser
but then again are we not
because somehow i feel enlightened.

and if there is a pond somewhere
that is overflowing with the tears
of hearts that have been broken open

then it must also be the reflection
of the hearts that now remember
what it feels like to beat again.

Come back to see this one again

After my coffee and several days of relatives, I am coming BACK to read this one again. I like it and I have to figure out exactly why--- Thanks Steve!

I love what this has to say

and the way Steve says it--it's so insightful, and a very positive take on a subject some would moralize over. This strophe:

we slip in and out no one the wiser

but then again are we not

because somehow i feel enlightened.

confused me--I think it's the double negative and feeling like there's something missing after "not." Maybe it's me. :-) Still a great poem though!
