Mother once said,
"You've got to leave him, you know"
I still haven't
She still adores the last one
The Frenchman, of course
The one who took and held me
Taught me languages I could feel and speak
She knew about the learning
In fact, she encouraged each
Way too young to have made that work
Far from legal in this country or his
Or maybe that's a copout
Maybe it would've lasted
True love across the miles
The ocean and absence soft barriers
To a love greater than they
Then again
I don't know
I loved that one so deeply, it's true
I thought I wasn't good enough
You've had that feeling too
This one, well it's different with him
He's the one who feels less than
He's even guilty of sins
That's why mother once said,
"You've got to leave him, you know"
I still haven't
She still adores the last one
