There are still tears here
the past bleeds down my face
as hollowness settles in my soul
the haunting aura that engulfs
memories that flood over
dripping down my chin
falling to the numbness
that swallowed all feeling
when I lived with you
in our house of cards
teetering, the wolf blowing it in
while I, in a pumpkin shell
dreamed that someday I’d be your princess
The fairy tale ended long ago
enchantment eluded this girl in rags
Withdrawing years ago, I laid it all to rest
knowing there was no glass slipper
and if there was, it was broken
slicing thin skin if I dared try it on.
Surrendering to my fate,
purging Hollywood dreams,
I lay in your arms, wrapped tight.
The same fists that used to pelt me
now hold my hand tenderly
seeking eternal forgiveness
to which I’ve looked, but cannot find.
