There's Always A Price To Pay

Some men pay a woman money
to have their needs fullfilled
others pay with words and gifts
to have their conscience stilled

Some women accept the money
to pay up all their bills
others accept the words and gifts
and think they are fullfilled

A man will say he loves you
to satisfy a need
Others will take their wallet out
And pay the gal to leave

A woman will give herself
to hear him say I do
While another takes the money
And buys a few things new

No matter which side of the coin
There always comes that day
The devil comes collectin'
There's always a price to pay

Whichever way they choose to go
the piper gets his due
and in the end when tallies rung
He claims a heart....or two

So here I sit with precious gifts
Wrapped in words that once held meaning
I have no one but myself to blame
For I was only dreaming

Gifts given to assuage the guilt
love offered in too much haste
Each caught up in their own need
There's always a price to pay
