They stand and look...
They linger and stare.
They like to witness
The complete despair
That consumes you every minute
Of everyday
The seconds you waste
Trying to find a way.

The concept is so easy
Yet you are blind to everything but
The pain inside your chest,
That organ called the heart.

You pay no heed to reason
And set out instead to make your mark.
You want to do this alone, and make worthwhile
The long hours you labour away in the dark.

You wish it was different,
You wish life wasn't so.
Your refusal to survive had granted your wish,
And now you're left with nowhere to go.

There are no joys here anymore,
There are no paths for you to take
You have none but yourself to blame
For the hollowness that adds to your state.

The life that was once filled with opportunities
Has slowly disintegrated into nothing.
The goals that once meant everything
Are now desperately following
You down that winding path into the darkness
Wanting to bring you back to reality ,
And show you the harshness
Of this new world you've built
For yourself and none other.
But you ask is reality not more cruel?
Why must you bother?

And so they stand and look,
They linger and stare,
They take great pleasure in
Seeing your soul stripped bare
Of everything but your falseness
Your unwillingness to let go
They pity you greatly
And wish you had more courage to show.

Self-sympathy is what they call it,
Others refer to it as cowardice.
A little of both is needed apparently,
To survive the acts of malice.

Days will go by,
Months will pass,
Years will follow.
Time moves on
And according to some,
So does sorrow.

They can stare all they like,
They can sympathise with you.
They can believe you're healed now,
They can assume that you're above the pain you've been subjected to.

But we both know
You are still looking
Still looking for that path
You have yet to stop peering
And searching in the dark.
