words
threaten to escape
and break free
from their shackles
inside my head.
Instead,
I swallow them down,
those
three
little
words,
and smother them beneath
the weight of my belief
that you won’t ever
feel the same
about me.

You shoot the words, or the thoughts about the words which make us all most vulnerable, as if they were sharp arrows. Still, the torment remains inside. Painfully familiar.
