I walk a fine line

To the left, a chasm blacker than pitch, its depths threaten to consume me
On the right, warmth and friendship, love and light
The tightrope sways and stretches, swinging me to and fro

Darkness calls to me, a siren song
Light assures me, pulling me nearer

The heights dizzying, my mind swims.
Eyes squeezed shut against the terror below

One step

Two

A faltered step and I begin to fall, tumbling through limbo
Yet my landing is soft, unexpected, warm embrace.
A voice calls me from the inky night, drawing me into the light
Safety, warmth, reassurance
