Decembers dusk draws the darkness in
Now the celebrations numb more than my skin
It’s Christmas day and celebrations are underway
For Fireworks dance dutifully downward, reflected by the bay.
Children’s sparkler hands seem touched by grace.
Looking around them the joyous chaos forms your face.
Made in most magnificent molten magic
The defenseless darkness details your dewy hair
As cold as I am, fate fell upon me then
For in the air was sown the name Claire.
All has faded now and you were never there
My hands are warmer now locked in a prayer.
Perhaps I had lost a thought
A tricky sprite not seen, nor heard, nor caught.
But only to come when truly sought
Even though this is not an authentic apparition
That prayer of mine is to ensure that should December darken
A face would sound and sparkle in the shadows
Some would ask if an angel was etched in heavens sky?
While the wicked wait to wonder
A flooding light fills that crowd in thunder
The child keeps that angel reflected in her eye.
