I know it's no good to apologize
or pick too hard at the scab of regret,
but even you have to admit it was dumb

not to realize that I had God at the door
selling candy and magazines
to raise money for my happiness

and not just some field trip to France.
You did well to go.
In the long run we are all dead, anyway.
