To have and have not,
It's not just a thought,
To me it is real,
Undoing my will.
Hot water is scarce,
I use it to shave,
To bath it's a curse,
To punish the brave.
The winder is cold,
The water as such,
In trying to be bold,
A chill I will catch.
To me it is real,
I need water hot,
On top of my chill,
To have and have not.

A bite to eat,
I don't want a lot,
To stand on my feet.
To have and have not,
Enough of my heart,
To change my plot,
And make a new start.
A roof and a bed,
Some clean clothes to wear,
To keep myself fed,
For nothing to care.
For nothing to care,
Afraid to have not,
To have I don't dare,
I'm not changing plot.

Enough of my soul,
To have and have not,
To walk, not to crawl,
And not to be caught.
A dignity loss,
That I call "my need",
Obey to my boss,
And his lawful greed.
A lover to have,
Or even a friend,
To give, to take luv,
The time to bend.
And keep just my style,
And my abstract thought,
And maybe a smile,
To have and have not.
