Too Many a Journey

I caressed your blond hair
As we drove across the state of Indiana.

Your shoulders rose and fell
As you slept through the snowy drive.

Peace was what your soul savored
Rest became your body’s joy.

The cares of the waking world
Gave way to fantasies of dreamy flight.

Several times you shuddered
..........when Reality sought you out
But Peace hid you.

The road was too short
We reached our destination too rapidly.

I caressed your blond hair
Though you weren’t there.
