like milk
like ambrosia
or like fridge cold Coke
after dust hours
wearing rural patience thin
I drank the sight
of mundane realities
moving across my view
lulled to exotica
by sense of steel
propelling a journey
towards
going north
east
anywhere but back
I laughed October out of Prague
Sunday out of Belfast
eternity out of Vienna
and raised a Havana dry voice
to call down heaven
or him to a dance
same words
different occasions
I drank Toulouse
under the table
blending spring clear Aqua Vera
with oak stained rouge
blending pastoral hymns
with 21st century sequencers
smattering clash
of centuries
under a purple
fading sky
casting shadows
in his face
and there
we drummed heels
to a tom tom mantra
lavished in layers
there he danced
he danced with me
Thanks for taking us on a whirlwind tour of your mind, Randi! Wonderful images and phrasing.
Q: Aqua Vera? Is this a deliberate concoction? Or did you mean Aqua Vita (water of life), or Aqua Verita (water of truth)? What is your intent?
Lots to savor in this poem. Thanks so much for sharing it.
