Two Angels

A restless night and wide awake
Tossing and turning in my bed
Wandering eyes looking at nought
Filled with consternation and angst
Wondering what tomorrow will bring
Sleep is difficult when you worry
They came into my room and sat beside me
One upon each side of my bed
He was as beautiful as a Greek god and She as an Elfin queen
And when they spoke they held me with their words
They soothed my worries my body my soul and they showed me tomorrow
I understood what they told me
Tomorrow will be good, I could see the future
With words of beauty they described my picture
With concern I watched them stand and prepare to leave
“My friends you have been so kind,” I said
And with outstretched arms I held my hands in theirs
They gently raised me from my bed
I don’t know why, but I did look back
And saw that my eyes had not been open
That I had not been restless in body
That my ears could not have listened to their words
They waited while I chose
I decided to look back no more
I walked forward with them to tomorrow
With my two angels
