I heard you had cancer today
I couldn't begin to imagine why

I heard you started treatments today
I hoped they would keep it away

I heard you were better today
I cheered you on deep inside

I heard you weren't doing so well today
I felt my heart weep and I cried and cried

I heard you would need a donor today
I searched and searched to see if I could

I heard I couldn't be your donor today
I know that if push came to shove I would

I heard they found a donor for you today
I had tears of joy stream down my face

I heard you weren't well for the donation today
I wept deep inside, hoping you could put cancer in its place

I heard you were doing better today
I had hoped your battle was finally over

I heard the bad news today
The cancer came back and you wouldn't recover

I heard you laughing today
I knew you weren't going down without a fight

I heard you in pain today
I cried and cried and screamed 'It ain't right'

I know the end nears each day
I prayed for you to not be in pain

I lost my uncle today
I know he soars with the eagles through the sun and the rain.
