I know that soon you will be gone
It grates against my heart.
Yet still I'm glad that in your life
I was allowed a part.

Through tears I see the memories
Of each and every year.
Every day I spent with you
The hours I hold dear.

I wish that I had told you
Every day how much I care
And appreciate the love you gave
When friends were never there.

The times I said 'I hate you'
But you loved me anyway.
The times I said to leave me be
But you would always stay.

Now that you are leaving me
I know I'll never find
Another soul so close to me
Who could ever be so kind.

Good Observations from tungtied2u

Agreed - there is a softness to the sound that gives the impression this is not the love of eros but that between a parent & child.

I'm not usually a fan

of end rhyme, but this poem has a soft and gentle beauty about it, whic I feel is helped by the device. Nice work.
