They say all things
must come to an end.
We try not to apply this
to the serious relationship
or that of a friend.
The truth of it is, though
those two things
always seem to be
the first on the list
of the things to go.
What we want the most
will without fail
disappear before our eyes
into a wispy, untenable vapor
as if only just a ghost.
Haunting our memories
for days, months and for many,
well into our years.
Making us the more wary
as each haunted memory
will remind us of our fears.
Our only way to conquer
is not to hide them
in some virtual locker.
But realize their reason
is to make sure we remain
on a keel, level and even.
Although the pain they bring
may seem inhuman and unbearable
it is the one & only thing
that will eventually make you
unscareable.
