I watched him
As he watched the train go by
Face pale under the street light
Blue jeans, slightly low slung
Red lumberjack shirt
Staring as the cars go by

He doesn't see me watching him
As he watches the train go by
For him, only the train lives
Drawing from the cigarette
Pressed firmly between his lips
Captured
He watches
I watch

The train has gone
He is turning now
Seeing me
I see him
Just the shape of a man

I drive on disappointed
Yet satisfied
In the watching
